What is going on in your house? What does an evening look like at your house? What "messes" are there? Provide specifics.

My house tends to be pretty quiet during the evening, up until dinner. When we first get home everyone drops there stuff at the door and someone is in charge of taking the dog out. Everyday, my mom says something about our stuff being left by the door, until we clean it up the way it should be. Then, we each grab snacks, my brother and I head to our rooms, and my mom and sister watch TV in the living room. No one really bothers each other, until we get hungry around dinner time. If dinner is done too late, we get annoyed with each other very easily because we are all waiting downstairs for it. My brother and sister run around, usually causing my mom to get mad as she's trying to finish up dinner. After dinner we all try to help clean up, then go back to doing homework or our own things. When some of our favorite TV shows are on, we are able to sit together in the living room and get along, but after a long day of school or work, my family tends to argue over insignificant things a lot.
ReplyDeleteNothing is ever really going on in my house. It's just my dad and I living here, since I am an only child. Things are usually quiet. Whenever I come home from school, I find my cat waiting by the door. I go upstairs and start homework. Sometimes I get coffee before I come home. I do homework and hangout until my dad comes home. We usually chit chat and then go out to dinner. School is always a topic of discussion, as is college. Some nights he comes home late, depending on traffic. He commutes from Boston, so there is not a set routine. Every day is different for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm in practically the same situation as Emily, except I'm living with my mom and I'll find a dog waiting by the door instead of a cat. I come home after school and hang around until my mom comes home around four. Then we'll go out to dinner and talk, mostly about school and college as well. After, we'll come home and we'll do our own things. I'll most likely be working on homework and she'll be doing stuff for work. It's quiet, but it's nice. It's definitely not a "stressful" home, and every day is pretty much the same.
DeleteMy house always seems to be in kayos. I usually get home after school and drop my bag in the kitchen and put my shoes in my room. I then go back to the kitchen to start my homework and by the end of the night, I usually have papers all over the table. When it is finally time for dinner my mom always has to ask me to clear all of my stuff off of the table. After dinner, there are always arguments over who has to pick up my sister from practice, the doctors, or a friend's house. It is the same cycle every day and there seems to be no way for it to change.
ReplyDeleteBoth my parents are busy with their jobs, and since my brother moved out, I’m usually by myself when I get home and it’s pretty quiet. My parents would always leave some food in the fridge or the oven for me to have before they come home, and I would always find some mails or magazines on the table. I normally just do my homework or hang out with my friends after school.
ReplyDeleteMy house is pretty quiet and calm after school. My younger brothers come home from school, quickly do their homework, and then head upstairs to play video games, where they stay until dinner. As soon as I get home I head to my room and start my homework, where I also stay until dinner. Occasionally I will do my homework in the kitchen, but I normally stay in my room. On the days my mom works from home, I will be reminded to put my shoes, backpack, and jacket away once I get home from school, but on the days she goes to the office, I won’t be reminded until she comes home that night. Once my dad gets home from work around 6, my parents start dinner and expect my brothers and me to set the table and help with dinner. My parents discuss their day at work and ask my brothers and me about school during dinner. After dinner is finished, we all clean up the kitchen and go back to our previous activities. My parents normally finish extra work they have and then sit in the living room and watch TV. I normally spend the rest of my night competing homework and doing extra things around the house while my brothers stay upstairs playing video games.
ReplyDeleteMy house is very active after I come home from school. I usually get home pretty late because of rehearsal, and by the time I get home my grandmother (who lives with us) has already set the table (no matter what time I get home, she sets it at like 11 in the morning) and if rehearsal has gone late (which it usually has) dinner is ready and my family is waiting. We have 4 pets, 2 dogs and 2 cats, and the puppy likes to try to "play" with the other animals, which they don't enjoy that much. Then, recently, my mother and I go to the barn to take care of my horse because he recently hurt himself and needs to be hand walked every night. After we get home I shower and do my homework and make any props I need to make for the shows, and try to get to bed as early as I can. This is what usually happens during the weekday at my house but that can change if my mom works late or if rehearsal runs later than usual
ReplyDeleteMy home is typically quiet during the evening of a week night. When I get home I usually put my shoes and backpack in the corner of a side room which is where everybody in my family puts their shoes and bags from the day. I then usually eat dinner with my family that my mom cooked for us. During dinner, we talk about what happened during our days and current events that are happening. My sister and I then go to our rooms and do our homework and study for the rest of the evening while my parents do household tasks or relax and watch TV until everybody goes to bed. This is a routine that occurs every week night in my house.
ReplyDeleteJohn, your nightly routine sounds just about the same as mine. When I get home from practice I put my stuff down in the side hallway and go take a shower. After that I will have dinner with my family and then go off and do my homework. Any extra time I have left is spent watching any sporting events that are on that night whether it is the Bruins/Red Sox, etc.
DeleteMy house is generally pretty quiet when I get home. Most days I come home on the bus, and my mom is at her desk working from home and my dad is not home from work yet. Sometimes, like this week, I get home after my dad does because I have rehearsal that runs late. When I get home I usually put my shoes in a closet by the front door, but sometimes I get lazy and forget to take them off until I get to my room. Sometimes I hang up my jacket in the same closet as the shoes, but usually it ends up either on the chair by the kitchen counter, on the stairs, or somewhere on the floor in my room. Once I finish putting my stuff down I usually just hang out in my room for a few hours until my mom calls me down for dinner. My family eats dinner together, and then I usually go back up to my room and my parents stay downstairs and watch TV until they go to bed.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that a lot of other students come home and put their things where they belong and start on their homework. I pretty much do the opposite. Ill put my backpack in the kitchen, which is exactly where my mom tells me not to put it, but I still do it everyday. My garage is connected to my basement, so I just leave my shoes down there. Then I let my two wonderful dogs outside. If my sister is home, I usually wont say anything to her and go directly upstairs to my room with my dogs following me. Ill sit in my room till I have to go to work or go to rehearsal, and then I'll just leave. Some days I have very minimal communication with my parents and my siblings, but other days we'll have a family dinner or something in which siblings are always compared to one another, competitiveness is always at an all time high, and the subject of college is always brought up (by my mom). Oh and somewhere in there I squeeze in some homework, or I put it off till first block in the computer lab.
ReplyDeleteSimilar to you Elena, when I get home I will never start my homework. After a long day of school, now made longer with sports and other activities, the last thing I want to do right when I get home is more school work. When I get home, I will drop my bag on a chair in the living room, grab a snack/dinner because it is usually 5:00 pm by the time i get home (average) and proceed to catch up on TV. By 8:00, my whole family is home and that is around the time we all eat dinner. Typically after dinner I will start my homework after 30 minutes - 2 hours of procrastination. By the time I REALLY start my homework, my house is dead silent and I am able to concentrate and get done what I need to before bed. And this is a continuous cycle of my everyday.
DeleteI am in a similar situation where I do not start my homework right after school as many of my peers do. I get home, after whichever sport is in season, and I relax for a little bit. Normally I watch the Red Sox, play with my pets, or spend time with my step-brother. Around 6:30 on a normal night (when I do not have any games), we have dinner as a family. Afterwards, I'm usually fooling around doing anything besides my homework. Then once I finally stop procrastinating like Dom, I do my homework later on in the night. Or like tonight, it tends to technically be the next day.
DeleteThe "messes" are usually by the computer desk where I drop off any sports bags and school bags. Right when I walk in my door, I put my shoes underneath a side table that is up against a wall on the right. Once four or five pairs of shoes are piled up there, my mom or stepdad end up yelling at me to get rid of them.
Although, in my house there are boxes and a lot more messes than usual because I am in the process of moving. I have been trying to do my homework sooner so that I have time to help my mom at our new house. I am hoping that this new living situation has an effect on my mentality as to when I should do my homework.
My afternoon schedule is similar to Elena's. I go to work everyday after school from 2:30-6:00. By the time I get home both my parents and my two younger siblings are already home. Usually my mom will have dinner waiting when I get home. Depending on the night my whole family may or may not eat dinner together. If we eat dinner together, my parents will always ask me about college. If my brother or sister have a sport practice that night then they'll usually be rushing to eat dinner before they leave. My mom has to have the kitchen absolutely clean before she does anything else and my parents usually urge us to help with the cleaning. After that I do my homework and by the time I finish it's time to go to sleep.
DeleteMy house is fairly active when I come home. My mother, my brother and I all get home around the same time, right after school. I usually put my bag up in my room, along with my coat and shoes, and do some of my homework. My brother usually spends most of the time in his room, so that is where he goes as soon as he gets home. My brother and I are always in and out of the house due to our activities, and everyday is different, but it is very rare that everyone is in the house in the afternoon. My father comes home around five thirty, and then we all eat dinner together around seven. After this I usually go back to finish my homework, and then if I finish my homework early I will return back downstairs to watch TV with my parents.

ReplyDeleteLike many, my house is generally quiet when I get home from school. Depending on the day, I'll find my mom cooking in the kitchen. On other days ill come home to an empty house since my mom and dad both work long hours, and my sister is away at college. I usually cook for my mom and dad on the days they are working, and on the days that my mom is home she cooks. My house is ALWAYS neat, and there's always a place for something. My everyday routine is different depending on what I have to do that day, but in the end it always ends with a family dinner
ReplyDeleteOn a typical day I'll get home from school drop my bag off and spend time with my mom if she is not at work.My dad works everyday till about 9pm, my oldest brother lives separately and my other brother goes to college so I do not seem them as often. If my mom is at work, I'll usually make something to eat before she is home and clean up the kitchen. If I work then I am gone from 5-10pm, but otherwise I love spending my nights with both my agents while we eat and watch our spanish shows. These shows have become a tradition for us, and we make sure to record them if we are unable to watch them on that night. We all enjoy this time because we can laugh, eat and talk together and even my brothers join us if they come to visit.
ReplyDeleteMy house tends to be pretty empty the only thing in my house is really my dog and cat. I usually let my dog out and then watch some TV if I have nothing else to do. The last thing I'll do is homework because I've been doing it all day. My house is pretty messy and I just put my bag down in a corner someplace. My dog will sometimes have gotten into something during the day and I have to clean it up. The rest of my family doesn't get home until around 5 so I have the house to myself until then which is pretty nice. Then if we have nothing else to do we eat dinner. Then for the rest of the night we watch the news or other TV shows.
ReplyDeleteOn a typical day, i get home from school and the house is empty. My dogs have been sleeping all day and the house is spotless as that is the way my mom makes sure it is. I put my bag and shoes in my room. If I have homework I will do it at my desk in my room but then i will leave at about 3:00 if i have sat prep or 3:30 if i am getting food with friends before my practice at 6:30. i do not see my parents till about 9:00, when i get home they are watching TV but they pause it and talk to me about my day, after the conversation they go to sleep and i shower. My house is generally clean and very quite with limited interaction throughout the days especially during sports seasons.
ReplyDeleteA typical evening for my family is pretty hectic. My mom helps my brother with his homework while I do mine. Usually I make a snack before I start my homework, and sometimes I leave the dishes and wrappers on the table until dinnertime. This annoys my father when he gets home from work. I also make a mess a lot of the time with my homework. When I finish the homework for one subject, instead of putting my things back into the backpack (like a normal person), I make a pile. The amount of piles increase as I complete my homework. At the end of the night I have to pack up all of the papers, binders, and books that have practically exploded all over my living room floor throughout the course of my evening. I could not imagine my home without the rest of my family and the noise that comes with them. I think I would feel lonely if I had to come home to an empty house every day.
ReplyDeleteMy afternoon is very similar! Every day when I get home, I unload my homework onto the kitchen table. After I finish doing one piece of my homework, I just continue to take out things from my bag until a big portion of the table is covered. My stepmom usually gets home around 3:30, but she goes downstairs to work out. When my dad gets home at 5:30, he turns the news on and starts to cook. That's also usually when my stepmom comes upstairs and my sister comes out of her room. It gets pretty noisy, which makes it hard to concentrate, so I go in my room. When it's time to eat, I have to go take everything off of the table so we can sit down and have our dinner together. After dinner, my dad and stepmom stay upstairs and watch some cheesy sitcom while I sit in my room and finish my homework.
DeleteA typical evening at my house usually includes a family dinner. That is the backbone of our evenings ALWAYS. After that, we usually work on our homework and watch breaking bad (My parents recently got hooked, before that we watched 24). My family is usually very busy with homework/skateboarding/dance/work, so my parents value this time when we can all come together and catch up. Typical messes include my dirty dishes, heaps of my laundry, and dozens of old skateboard wheels lying around. Our house is usually pretty bustling, whether we are chasing our mischievous dog or hustling to get ready for work.
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, my house is a mess. We have homework papers, mail, and coupons all around our kitchen in crazy piles. We are all constantly in and out of the house on our way to practices, meetings, clubs, and more. My family and I usually eat dinner at the same time and all together. My mom is almost always the one to make dinner, unless she is busy, then my dad will make something frozen. By the end I the night we are all in the living room together, watching tv, reading magazines, or on the internet.
ReplyDeleteMy house is desolate durring the day, but comes alive at night. In the evening, the house is always lively. Me and my sister get home after track and watch TV, eat, and do homework. At 6 my mom comes home and begins making dinner. She always has it done when my father gets home at 7. We all sit down together at the table and tell each other about our days. After that the kids go finish their homework while my mom and dad relax and watch TV. As we finish our homework, we slowly join them. Everyone is pretty much asleep by 11 and the house is quiet until the hectic mornings. Where we fight for the bathrooms and get ready for the day.
ReplyDeleteMy house is really quiet in the evening nowadays. When I get home, I throw my backpack in my room, and eat a snack. For snack, I usually just heat up the previous nights supper. This doesn't create a mess as I just throw it in the dishwasher when I'm done. At 6, my parents get home and we eat dinner and my dad and I usually watch whatever sports we can. My brother and sister are at college and I don't do much that warrants a mess, so my house is very quiet nowadays.
ReplyDeleteUpon arriving at home on the average day, my home tends to be fairly quiet, calm and depending on when it was last full cleaned, fairly neat and tidy. However that is not to say that my house can also be filled with much energy and excitement. Living with 5 other people, 3 cats and a dog can be pretty hectic sometimes. Dishes tend to build on the counter tops, clothing is folded on the tables or in laundry baskets on the porch, and the bedrooms can also be cluttered with clothing and other messes. My family is a very active one and often we're not home so the house could be left very clean or a complete wreck. However at the end of the day we all tend to pull together to keep it clean and stay close as a family.
ReplyDeleteWhen I get home from school, the house is usually pretty quiet because just my mom and I are home. I will usually eat a snack and then start my homework. My mom does some grading and watches tv. My dad and brother typically come home at around 6pm and we eat dinner then. After dinner, I finish my homework and then take a shower. My house is usually quiet on the weekdays but when my sister comes him sometimes on the weekends, the entire family is home
